Back To School

What was that flash of light that just passed by my window? It was a school bus! School time again!!! The teachers are ready to meet a new group and embark on the journey of educating these young minds. The children with all of their new clothes and school supplies are preparing for the excitement of another school year.
I was in attendance at the Taylor Elementary Read-i-fest and let me just say that I was impressed how organized it was. The parents had the opportunity to go to several booths including the health department, a local dentist office, the library, PTSA was enrolling new members, Girl Scout representatives were there and as impressive as the community participation was it was nothing compared to the kindness of the teachers and school staff that were present. There were women in the office answering questions and directing people where they needed to go. The principal was present in the gymnasium and was greeting students as they exited. The librarian and p.e. teacher were directing parents and students to their classrooms (especially appreciated by the parents of Kindergarteners). Then of course if you ventured across the street the Family Resource Center had things set up including a snack table and a booth with a police officer doing finger prints of the children and letting them look inside his police cruiser. Overall it was a great experience!

The middle school also has a similar event; an open house where parents and students can meet and greet the teachers, and receive valuable information for the upcoming school year. I was not
at this event, but based on my experience at Taylor I assume it was just as successful.
